This new OEM circuit board is for replacing Balboa 52640 circuit boards having a EL8000R1(x) chip number.

Tip: The "(x)" shown above is shorthand for a range of last letters on EL8000R1 chip numbers this circuit board can replace.

Please note: A list of chip numbers this circuit board can replace is specified in the CROSS REFERENCE VERIFICATION section below.

Please Note: The numbers on the new circuit board you receive may be different and the components may look slightly different but it will still connect the same and it is a fully compatible OEM replacement , unless specified otherwise in the ADDITIONAL CROSS REF., COMPATIBILITY & INSTALLATION section below.

Cross Reference Verification
Step 1 of 2:
Tip: Locate the serial number on the old circuit board being replaced.
Tip: The serial number is on a sticker on the old circuit board (not the box).
Tip: The serial number is shown on the sticker preceded by S/N or P/N (part number).
Tip: The image above shows an example of a serial number sticker (click image to enlarge it).

Verify the serial number on the old circuit board being replaced is in this list.

Serial Numbers:
  • 52640
  • BAL52640

Step 2 of 2:
Tip: Locate the chip number on the circuit board you are replacing.
Tip: The whole chip number is on a sticker located on the circuit board (not the box).
Tip: This is a different sticker than the serial number sticker.
Tip: The chip number sticker usually has two lines of text and the top line is the whole chip number (the bottom line is not needed).
Tip: See image above for an example of a chip number sticker and where they're typically found on the circuit board (click the image to enlarge it).

Verify the chip number on the circuit board being replaced placed is in this list.

Chip Numbers:
  • EL8000R1A
  • EL8000R1B
  • EL8000R1C
  • EL8000R1D
  • EL8000R1E
  • EL8000R1F
Additional Cross Ref., Compatibility & Installation
ATTENTION: Some of these hot tub systems have incompatible 120V tranformers
Tip: these tranformers plug into the existing circuit board.

You must have have or purchase a Balboa 30270-2 (240V) transformer for use with this new replacement circuit board.

Tip: Usually there is a white tag on the wires of the tranformer and the tag has the transformer's part number on it (I.E. 30270-2).
Tip: 30270-1 = 120V.(not compatible).
Tip: 30270-2 = 240V (compatible).

Tip: Some tranformers have the part number stamped into the metal of the tranformer but it usually doesn't have the last digit and therefore can't be used to determine the transformer's voltage.

Tip: If there is no white tag on the transfomer, then remove the transfomer for futher inspection.
Around the base of the transformer are wires that come out and go back into the transformer.
Some or one of those wires will have a blue connector (a wire splicing connector).
The 120V transformers have two blue connectors (not a compatible transformer).
The 240V transformers have one blue connector (is compatible).

ATTENTION: If you need to order a Balboa 30270-2 (240V) transformer, please give us a call before placing an order.

Configuration Instructions
ATTENTION: The following assumes your existing circuit board's wires and dipswitches are configured correctly.
ATTENTION: Set all wires on the new circuit board to match the positions of the same repsective wires on the existing circuit board.
Tip: The wires are identified by a "W" number (I.E. "W7") next to the wire on the circuit boards and that side of the wires will always remain where they are.
The other end of the wires are connected into a place on the circuit boards labeled with a "J" number (I.E. "J35") and those are the ends of the wires that are the movable, if needed to match the existing circuit board.

Tip: If there is a wire on one circuit board that is not on the other ciecuit board, skip it and move on to the next wires to match up.

ATTENTION: Do not add or remove any wires on the new circuit board.

ATTENTION: Set the switches on both dipswitch banks on the new circuit board to match the respective siwtches on the existing circuit board.

Tip: Items shown in "Related Products" below have also been found in hot tub systems with Balboa 52640 EL8000R1(x) circuit boards.
